Overview
Welcome Spartan families, fans, and alumni!
I am extremely proud of our over 500 student-athletes, our professional and experienced coaches, our dedicated Athletic Training team, and all other staff that have helped create and maintain an athletics program we are all so proud. But I would be remiss if I didn’t welcome you, our Spartan faithful. As Athletic Director, I want to personally thank each of you for your support and dedication to our athletic programs, coaches and, most importantly, our student-athletes.
We are proud of the accomplishments of 2022-23 and look forward to see what 2023-24 will bring. Last year was another successful year. Every single Damien Varsity team maintained a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Our teams qualified for postseason competition in 10 sports. Damien Athletics captured two league championships. Damien was awarded the league MVP in water polo and basketball. Our Fall season was capped off with our water polo team finishing league champions and bringing home the CIF-SS Division III championship. In March, Damien Ice Hockey brought home the school’s first state championship, capturing the CAHA 2A title.
Congratulations to our coaches and team on an incredible season. In 2022-23, we recognized eight student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent and accepted scholarships to play Division I athletics. I want to give a big thanks to all our coaches for their willingness to commit so much of their time and talent to our student-athletes. I can confidently state, our coaches are a large reason Damien can boast as much success as it does.
I would like to thank the faculty and staff for their support of our student-athletes. Because of these outstanding men and women our student-athletes are prepared for success academically. Our teachers are our unsung heroes!
Additionally, I need to extend a big thank you and have an immense amount of gratitude for our booster club and parents. Without your tireless hours of volunteer work, flexibility on changes in the schedules, and adapting to new procedures, athletics at Damien could not have functioned. Thank you!
I look forward to the 2023-2024 season and the opportunity to cheer on our teams from the sidelines. I hope to see you all there.
Go Spartans!

Through athletics, student-athletes learn social skills and life lessons that come through true competition: effort, teamwork, sportsmanship, preparation, dignity, worth, and handling adversity. Athletic participation provides opportunities to exhibit sportsmanship and Christian conduct. It encourages hard work and perseverance. It allows the student-athletes to strive and fail, but provides opportunities to start again and achieve success. It also provides opportunities for handling success in a Christ-honoring way.
The goals and outcomes that are inherent in athletics provide for real-life learning that is necessary for functioning in life. Athletics is one avenue at Damien High School that maximizes the gifts and abilities of students and prepares each for the demands of college and the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Damien is a member of the California Interscholastic Federation – Southern Section. Damien competes in the Baseline League, a high school athletic conference. The league is comprised of Chino Hills, Damien (La Verne, CA), Etiwanda (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), Rancho Cucamonga, St. Lucy’s (Glendora, CA) and Upland.
Damien High School offers its students 15 different athletic programs to participate across CIF and non-CIF associations. Students are also are able to contribute to the athletic programs as team managers, statisticians, or athletic trainers.
